What large manufacturers do well
Scale brings real advantages. A big factory can make the same model many times with consistent results, because jigs, cutting patterns and processes are fixed. Wide catalogues cover every room, so a family can furnish a flat from one source. Multiple stores and online listings mean you can see pieces in more than one city. Prices are usually set and published, which makes comparison easy. Service networks can reach more cities. For standard pieces that fit your room, this is often the simplest route, and there is nothing wrong with taking it.
Where scale works against you
Factory lines are built for repetition. Changing a sofa's depth, an armrest's width or the upholstery outside the listed options may not be offered at all. Catalogue specifications are often brief: a material name without a grade, or a dimension list without seat height and depth. Large sellers also handle high volumes of orders, and India's consumer complaint patterns, across the market, include delivery slipping past the promised date, pieces that do not match the pictures, stalled refunds, cushions sagging within months and slow warranty repairs. None of these is unique to large companies, but a large company's policies are fixed, and you should read them before paying.
How SOISU's approach differs
SOISU begins with a base model at a base price. Any producible change to size, material or design revises the price. A completely new design includes development cost. Standard products stay at base price with stitch options only. You see the drawing before production and sign it along with the specification. The ready-by date is on the order. The warranty is 2 years on the terms in the order, and repairs are handled by SOISU's own team rather than a third party. SOISU began by importing finished furniture, like much of India's premium market; as BIS rules arrived, it moved production and assembly from China to India. It is also the exclusive India partner of We Story (Zuoyou) and makes its own products.
Where a large manufacturer is the better choice
Choose a large manufacturer when a catalogue piece already fits your room and taste, when you want a published price with no quote step, when you need many pieces across categories that SOISU does not make, such as storage units and office furniture, or when you live in a city where their service network is closer. SOISU works in five categories and has served 200+ homes across 10+ cities; it is not trying to be a full-home catalogue.
How to compare fairly
Ask both for the same five things in writing: a dimensioned drawing including seat height and depth; the specification of frame, seat build, foam and upholstery by type and code; the delivery or ready-by date and what happens if it slips; the warranty terms, including what is excluded and who carries out repairs; and the cancellation terms. Sit on the actual model, not a similar one. For regulated categories such as chairs, tables, storage units and beds under the Furniture Quality Control Order, ask about certification status of the finished product; check the current notification on bis.gov.in, as of September 2026.
