What to Expect When Your Sofa Is Delivered in India

Sofa delivery in India typically involves 3–6 weeks lead time from order to delivery for made-to-order pieces, or 1–2 weeks for in-stock items. Most premium brands deliver in a dedicated vehicle with at least two trained handlers. Before the delivery date, measure your building's lift (internal dimensions), stairwell width at the tightest landing, and apartment door width. When the sofa arrives, inspect every section before the handlers leave — check for transit scratches, torn upholstery, compressed corners, and loose legs. Sign the delivery note only after full inspection. If any damage is found, photograph it immediately with timestamps and report to the brand within 24 hours. Do not use the sofa before damage is documented, as use can be cited to void a damage claim.

Before Delivery Day

Confirm the delivery date 48 hours in advance and ask the brand for the dimensions of each deliverable piece (not just the assembled sofa). Check your building's lift internal dimensions — not just the door width, but the interior depth. A sofa section must fit inside the lift without tipping, which depends on lift depth. Inform your building's security team that a large furniture delivery is coming — many Mumbai and Delhi buildings have restriction hours (typically 9am–6pm weekdays only). Clear a 3m × 3m space in your living room before arrival.

During Delivery: What to Check

Check each piece as it comes off the vehicle, not after all pieces are inside. Look for: corner compressions or dents in the frame visible through the upholstery, scratches on wooden legs or feet, torn or fraying seams at joins, any smell of mildew or chemical which may indicate improper storage. Inspect the underside of each section — transit damage often appears on non-visible surfaces first. If a piece requires disassembly for delivery, watch the reassembly and verify all joints are secure.
