Fabric sofa stain removal in India follows a priority sequence: act immediately. For liquid spills: blot (never rub) with a dry white cloth until no more liquid transfers. For food stains (including Indian staples like dal, curry): apply cold water with 2-3 drops of mild dish soap, blot with cloth, repeat until stain lifts. For oil-based stains (ghee, cooking oil): apply baking soda generously, leave 30 minutes to absorb, brush off, then treat with cold soapy water. For turmeric stains (the hardest to remove from Indian sofas): treat within 30 seconds with cold water — once dried, turmeric oxidises and becomes very difficult to fully remove from pale fabrics.
Blot spills immediately with dry cloth — rubbing spreads the stain and damages fabric fibre.
