Curry stains (especially turmeric) are one of the most common and challenging sofa stains in Indian households. Speed is critical — turmeric oxidises within 30 seconds and becomes significantly harder to remove. Immediately blot all solids with a dry cloth. Apply cold water (never hot — heat sets turmeric permanently). Mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part cold water and apply to the stain, blot gently. Follow with a few drops of mild dish soap in cold water, blot and rinse. For dried curry stains: a paste of baking soda and water left for 30 minutes sometimes lifts the remaining stain. As a last resort, professional upholstery cleaning with enzyme-based cleaners is most effective for set Indian food stains.
