What Bouclé Is (and What Cheap Bouclé Isn't)
Bouclé is defined by its looped yarn structure — the loops create the distinctive textured surface. Genuine bouclé uses high-twist yarn with consistent loop formation. Cheap bouclé uses low-twist yarn that loses its loops through abrasion and laundering, degrading to a flat, pilled surface within 2–3 years. The test for bouclé quality: run your palm firmly across the surface 10 times. Quality bouclé retains its loop structure; cheap bouclé begins to flatten and pill immediately.
