Cloud Sofas vs Classic Leather Sofas — Which One Is Right for Your Mumbai Home?
Cloud sofas trended on Instagram for two years. They are not built for Mumbai. Here is the honest comparison — material engineering, lifespan, climate fit, resale.
Cloud sofas — those deep, low, oversized seats with no internal frame — became the Instagram sofa of 2024. They photograph beautifully. They are also the wrong sofa for a Mumbai home, and the reasons are not aesthetic.
The structural problem
A cloud sofa relies on foam density and feather-fill, not a frame. In Mumbai humidity, feather fill mats and foam compresses unevenly within 18 months. The sofa never quite recovers its shape between uses. A framed sofa on a kiln-dried hardwood frame keeps its silhouette far longer. (SOISU uses artificial composite leather — not real leather and not PU — alongside fabric, bouclé and velvet.)
The resale problem
Cloud sofas have effectively zero resale value at year three. A well-built sofa on a hardwood frame can be reupholstered rather than replaced.
